Questions

Second passport FAQs

What is the cheapest way to get a second passport?

São Tomé and Príncipe starts at $90,000 for one person, and Vanuatu at $130,000. In the Caribbean, Dominica is the lowest at $200,000. Government, due diligence and professional fees come on top. Read our full cost breakdown.

Do I have to give up my current passport?

Not for the programmes we cover. They allow dual citizenship. Whether you can keep your original nationality depends on your home country's rules, so check that first.

Do I have to live in the country?

No for the Caribbean, Vanuatu, São Tomé and Turkey. Most residency routes (Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Latvia, Hungary, Malta and Panama) need little or no stay for the permit, but you must actually live there to get a passport later. The US green card routes mean moving to the US.

Will a Caribbean passport still get me into Europe visa-free?

Yes, today. But the EU has asked the five Caribbean states to close their programmes by June 2028 and could suspend visa-free access if they refuse. Read what that means for you.

How long does it take?

Most Caribbean passports take 3 to 6 months. Vanuatu and São Tomé can be quicker. Residency routes such as Portugal, Italy or Panama give you a permit in months but a passport only after 5 to 10 years.

Rules are changing fast in 2026.

Caribbean programmes face an EU review, Latvia closes routes in January and EB-5 prices rise. Get advice before the window moves.
